24 Days of LosMas- A Christmas Tale (2005)

I will be posting Christmas themed horror films over the next 24 days of LosMas, for the sixteenth night, I am listing the 2005 Spanish Horror movie A Christmas Tale.

A Christmas Tale (2005)
Dir- Paco Plaza

During Christmas in a Spanish vacation town during the offseason, five young friends find a woman dressed as Santa trapped in a hole in the forest. They soon learn that she may have been part of a bank robbery, and one of the kids decides that instead of reporting her, they should try to get the money from her in exchange for assistance. What sounds like a simple plan begins to get complicated when she turns up missing. A Christmas Tale was directed by Spanish director Paco Plaza who is best known for REC and Veronika. The movie was a Spanish tv production with a great cast of children, most notable was Ivana Baquero, who would star in Pan's Labyrinth shortly afterward. The film has the feel of coming of age film like Stand By Me or The Goonies but with a dark plot and a terrifying twist. A Christmas Tale was a great movie, and given the horror pedigree of director Plaza, it is no surprise that even a made for tv movie can be thrilling and scary as REC.
