I will be posting Christmas themed horror films over the next 24 days of LosMas, for the twentieth night, I am listing the 2018 Horror movie Await Further Instructions.
Await Further Instructions (2018)
Dir- Johnny Kevorkian
A British working-class family gathering for the Christmas Holiday encounter the usual dysfunction when an estranged son visits bringing his liberal-minded non-caucasian girlfriend. Despite efforts by his mother to keep a peaceful household tensions due rise as the evening draws out. Problems get worse when it is discovered that the house is surrounded by a mysterious black wall that traps the family in the house with no means of escape and no outside communication. The only source of information is the television that begins to give them instructions that it demands they follow, no matter how strict or violent they are. Await Further Instructions was directed by Johnny Kevorkian, who frames the movie in the style of a classic Twilight Zone episode. The struggle faced by the family relies on genuine factors like xenophobia and fears of media brainwashing as the family tries to find answers to the situation they are facing. The perceived fear and paranoia experienced by the family escalate to genuine concern as the black mass suddenly takes control and threatens the family. Await Further Instructions may lack some of the nuance and effective writing of the most classic Twilight Zone episodes, but it does prove to be scary enough for a Christmas movie.
