Here is a collection of films that have one or more people being stranded or isolated and having to face some form of peril that is putting their lives at risk. These are all great films with a number of them being some of the best horror films ever made.
Repulsion (1965)
A woman is left alone in her flat, and the paranoia that develops leads to massive delusions and psychotic tendencies. Her hallucinations are marked with paranoid fantasies that lead her to homicidal tendencies.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
This groundbreaking horror film featured a group of strangers who must work together to fight off a horde of undead attackers. Pretty much preventing the horror film as it was known, Night of the Living Dead is considered one of the all best scary movies.
Alien (1979)
The commercial space freighter Nostromo exits hyperspace when its computer detects a beacon is emanating from an unknown planet. The team encounters some mysterious eggs onboard an alien vessel, and one is attacked. Later the same crewman births a hideous creature that soon grows and infects the ship, killing the crew one at a time.
The Shining (1980)
A writer takes a job as a caretaker of a resort during the winter and brings his family along. His sanity begins to crack as the isolation and a mysterious force in the hotel trigger his paranoia and put his families lives at risk.
The Thing (1982)
An Antarctic Expedition finds a frozen package in the burned out remains of a Norwegian Station. Thawing it out, they discover a creepy looking body that looks kind of human. The creature is still alive and pissed off, taking the form of first the dogs and then members of the crew.
Cujo (1983)
A woman and her son are trapped in her car with a large St Bernard keeping them from escaping, the once friendly and familiar dog is now a dangerous threat after being bitten by a bat and contracting rabies.
Cube (1997)
Seven strangers find themselves in a mysterious cube-shaped room with doors that led to similar rooms. Not knowing one another or where they are it is soon learned that many of the rooms may be booby-trapped and their goal of finding an exit will depend on their ability to figure out which rooms are safe and which ones are to be avoided.
Dog Soldiers (2002)
A group of British army reservists finds themselves trapped in a small farmhouse and attacked by werewolves while they are on a weekend training retreat. Despite their training and firepower, they find themselves nearly helpless as they stalked one at a time by the pack of wolves
The Descent (2005)
Six women go cave exploring and find themselves trapped after a cave-in occurs, they then learn that the tunnel they are is unexplored and that something else may be hiding in the tunnels.
Ils (2006)
A French couple who lived in an isolated country home wakes up to find their home has been broken into by a group of hooded assailants who wish to terrorize them and possibly worse.
The Mist (2007)
A father and his son find themselves trapped in a grocery store with a group of stranger surrounded by a think mysterious fog that hinds dangerous creatures but he also learns that a more immediate danger may be present.
Rec (2007)
A Spanish news crew follows a team of firefighters on a routine call only to discover that the apartment building they enter is quarantined, and they are now trapped. The nature of their quarantine will cause problems for them as fellow residents begin to get infected.
Sunshine (2007)
An international crew sent on a mission to jump-start the sun after it begins to radiate less energy. Their risky space mission follows an unsuccessful expedition that was lost seven years prior as well some new dangers they did not foresee.
Pontypool (2008)
A radio disc jockey learns of a virus outbreak that is happening as his show is on the air. As he seeks more details of the incident they workers in the building must barricade themselves from infected groups that may be zombies.
Frozen (2010)
Three skiers are left on a ski lift that has shut down due to a storm approaching, with no way to reach for help the three must decide if they can survive a jump from the chair or find another way to get off as they know they will not make it if they stay put.
Darling (2015)
Darling is a psychological thriller about a young woman's slow descent into madness as she takes on a job as the caretaker of an old mansion in Manhattan. Shot in black and white and utilizing little dialogue, Darling uses subliminal edits and unsettling music to tell a story that is shown in a series of chapters leading to an inevitable tragic outcome.
Howl (2015)
A group of strangers on a train must work together when they are besieged by a pack of werewolves after their train is stranded in a region of the forest where cell phones are useless.
Hush (2016)
A psychotic killer stalks a deaf woman who lives alone in the forest after he has cut off her power and damaged her car. A cat and mouse game ensues as she tries to protect herself from the stranger who seems more interested in messing with her before he tries to kill her.
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
A young woman survives a car wreck to find that is in a bomb shelter with a strange older man who tells her a great disaster has happened and that it is dangerous to go outside. She must decide if he can be trusted or if she needs to escape from someone who may be mentally unstable and dangerous.
The Monster (2016)
A troubled young mother taking her daughter to stay with her father are stranded in the middle of a lonely road late in the evening only to find that a dangerous creature is stalking them and anyone who comes to help. They must work together to find a way to survive and fight back.
The Shallows (2016)
A female surfer encounters a shark close to shore and is injured, she finds temporary safety on a buoy but the shark is still present and waiting for her to try and make back to shore. Making matters worse is the threat from prolonged exposure to the sun and dehydration.
It Comes at Night (2017)
A man who has sheltered his family in the woods from an unknown threat finds his tranquility shaken when another family arrives seeking refuge. Can he trust these strangers and is it worth risking the safety of his family are some of the fears explored.
A Quiet Place (2018)
After an alien invasion has wiped out society and most of the population a family survives by ensuring they make no noise as it will draw the creatures to you. Tensions arise after the wife finds out she is pregnant and their daughter begins to challenge the rules. One of the best movies of 2018 and destined be a future classic.
