Over the next 100 days, I will present one movie of significances in horror, suspense or thrillers for each year from 1919 to 2018. The next film presented here is 1998 Japanese horror movie "Ring" starring Nanako Matsushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rikiya Otaka and directed by Hideo Nakata.

Two Japanese girls speak of a videotape that is cursed, one of the girls reveals she watched that tape a week prior with some other friends and received a phone call. She is then killed shortly after by an unseen force. A reporter, who was the aunt of the victim, beings to look into this story to find answers about this mysterious videotape. She travels to a village where she finds the videotape and watches it. She gets a strange phone call but does not take it too seriously until her son watches the tape and she fears for their safety as she tries to find a way to end the curse. Ring became a big hit in Hong Kong and gained enough attention in the United States to get a remake that was released in 2002. The movie also helped revitalize the Japanese horror movie industry with films like Ju-on and Dark Water having great success as well.
