Over the next 100 days, I will present one movie of significances in horror, suspense or thrillers for each year from 1919 to 2018. The next film presented here is 2008 Swedish vampire horror movie "Let the Right One In" starring Kare Hedebrant, Lina Leandersson, Per Ragnar, Ika Nord, Pete Carlberg and directed by Tomas Alfredson.
Let the Right One In (2008)
Dir- Tomas Alfredson
Oskar, a young preteen boy who is bullied by his classmates befriends a young girl named Eli who has a secret she shares when they bond as friends. Eli is a vampire of unknown age and lives with an older man who takes care of her needs and gets her fresh blood. Eli sees that Oskar is bullied and encourages him to stand up for himself. This new friendship gives him the confidence to face his bullies and to learn what love can mean despite her secret. Let The Right One In succeds because of the way Eli is portrayed as a vampire, she is a shy girl who feeds because she has too but opening up to Oskar shows some humanity still present in her. Based on a novel, the film would be remade in the US and is one of the few remakes that stands on its own.
