Maneater (2022)
After the death of his daughter by a wayward great white shark, a grieving father defies the local officials and swears he will destroy this monster. Meanwhile, a group of friends on vacation take a trip to one of the islands near the mainland but find themselves trapped and isolated by the same shark that attacked the young lady earlier. As their numbers diminish and they cannot reach out for help, the survivors find an unlikely hero from the grieving father who happens upon the stranded party. Maneater is a 2022 shark thriller directed by Justin Lee, starring country music legend Trace Atkins, Nicky Whelen, and Jeff Fahey. With a predictable plot, Maneater is similar to just about every shark movie, including Jaws. The one area in which Maneater differs is the Hawaiian setting, offering some stunning backdrops with the island's mountains and world-beating beaches contrasting the terror of the deep. The film has some notable shark kills, but some are just comically bad. While Maneater is no different from most other shark movies, it does feature a better cast, with Ms. Whelen and Mr. Atkins featuring heavily in the storyline.
