Over the next 100 days, I will present one movie of significances in horror, suspense or thrillers for each year from 1919 to 2018. The next film presented here is the 1946 period thriller "Bedlam" starring Boris Karloff, Anna Lee, Billy House and directed by Mark Robson.
Bedlam (1946)
Dir- Mark Robson
During the 18th Century, a young woman Nell Bowen (Lee) seeks to reform the St. Mary's of Bethlehem Asylum (Bedlam) in London, England. The asylum is run by the unscrupulous Master Sims (Karloff) who allows paying guests to observe the patients all while hiding the institution's cruel practices from the general public. When Miss Bowen threatens to expose the real nature of the asylum Master Sims decides to make her an unwitting guest. Bedlam was inspired by the real-life Bethlem Royal Hospital with Karloff playing a fictionalized version of the infamous head physician John Monro. The movie was directed by Mark Robson and produced by Val Lewton.
