31 Days of Horror Lists by the Losman- Ghost Movies

For the month of October I will put out a list of Top 10’s on a number of subjects each day, this should be fun as I would enjoy feedback and discussion on my list and will welcome feedback on how to improve the list as I plan on featuring them on my website. 

Ten Great Movies About Ghosts



    The Sixth Sense (1999)

M Knight Shyamalan surprised audiences with this tale of a child psychologist trying to reach out to a troubled boy. The supernatural elements involved will be all the more shocking when the truth is revealed. The Sixth Sense would go to be one of the biggest hits of 1999 and remains one of the best films directed by Shyamalan.





    Ghost Ship (2002)

A series of brutal murders are shown in a flashback onboard a luxury cruise ship, years later a salvage crew find the ship and anticipate a massive windfall after they learn about a stash of gold. Once onboard the crew members all face mysterious visions that lead most to their deaths and others to an uncertain fate.




    Haunted (1995)

A professor who exposes supernatural hoaxes is invited to investigate ghostly spirits in a home located in the same town that his twin sister had died many years before. Once there he meets a beautiful young woman who lives in the fancy house only to find that mysterious events are indeed occurring.





    The Others (2001)

A woman who is awaiting word on her missing husband movies her two kids to the English coast to keep them out of the sun due to a mysterious condition. The home she chooses seems haunted with the mother suspecting that her staff may not be the cause.





Stir of Echoes (1999)

A man is seeing bizarre visions after he is hypnotized by his sister in law, this leads him to seek answers to a crime involving a young girl. His quest to find her will lead him to an obsessive search but may also have potential danger awaiting him.




The Woman in Black (2012)

A young attorney journeys to a remote town to attend to a clients will and affairs. Having to deal with the loss of his wife, he finds the villagers are hiding a terrible secret and that the home of his client may be haunted with by a terrible spirit.





The Awakening (2011)

A female author and ghost investigator answer a request to investigate a reported incident of a haunting at a boarding school for boys after a student has died in an accident. Once in the school, she befriends a young boy only to learn that her presence there may reveal some truths about herself as well as the secrets that the boarding school will reveal.




Kwaidan (1964)

With a title translated as "Ghost Story," this Japanese production made use of traditional folktales to spin visions of terror and fear. Kwaidan presents four stories featuring ghosts and spirits of Japanese lore. Although a flop in Japan, the movie would later attain cult and critical success outside of Asia





Innocents (1961)

The first-rate thriller based on Henry James' The Turn of the Screw, with Kerr as governess haunted by specters that may or may not be real. The apparitions are invading the house result in her terrorizing the children in what she believes are made up stories.




Ghost Story (1981) 

Four senior men who are lifelong friends meet to tell ghost stories only to find that the son of one of the men has died under mysterious circumstances with a strange woman who they all thought had been killed in their youth. This film was the last for Fred Astaire, Douglas Fairbanks, and Melvin Douglas.
