I will post Christmas-themed horror films over the next 24 days of LosMas; for the twentieth night, I am posting the 2024 slasher He Sees You When You're Sleeping.
He Sees You When You’re Sleeping (2024)
A young man with a troubled mental state after witnessing his parents being murdered returns to his hometown to settle some family estate issues, but a series of murders may make him regret this trip. He Sees You When You're Sleeping is a black comedy slasher directed by Charlie Steeds, featuring Caroline Williams, David Lenik, Lauren-Marie Taylor, and Peyton Michelle Edwards. The film's 1980s setting helps to set up a movie that, despite its slasher roots, is more a tale of gaslighting and deception. David Lenik's portrayal of a distraught man helps the story move along with a great cast of newcomers and a few horror scream queens. The best part of He Sees You When You're Sleeping is the house and 70s look of the film; the cinematography will make some feel like this movie is much older than it is thanks to its look and feel. While the film does feature a killer Santa, it is less a slasher and more akin to the spooky gothic films of the 1960s and 1970s. Caroline Williams shines in her role and displays great comic touches that work well with her beauty. While not as well known, the rest of the cast do adequately in this dark holiday tale that will make you wonder who the real villains are.
