I will be posting Christmas-themed horror films over the next 24 days of LosMas; for the eleventh night, I am posting the 1989 thriller Family Reunion
Family Reunion (1989)
Dir- Michael Hawes
A family traveling during the Christmas holiday takes a detour to a California ghost town called Sutterville and encounters a mysterious drifter with psychic powers. Soon after, they learn of a deadly massacre in Sutterville many years before and that they may be connected to a deadly cult there. Family Reunion is a late 80s thriller that lacks the body count and blood of the slasher movies that were popular in that error. Despite its satanic premise, the film is not as scary or intense as The Exorcist and The Omen; instead, it focuses on the cult leader using his psychic powers to hurt people and cause vehicles to drive on their own. Michael Hawes directed Family Reunion and co-wrote One Dark Night with Tom McLoughlin.
