Tokyo Gore Police (2008)

Tokyo Gore Police (2008)
Dir- Toshihiro Nishimura

In the future, Tokyo has privatized its police force as they fight against the threat from deadly mutated humans called "Engineers." Ruka is a police officer tasked with hunting and destroying Engineers but her quest to find her father's murderer will reveal some dark secrets. Tokyo Gore Police was directed by Toshihiro Nishimura and starred Elhi Shiina, best known for her role in Audition. Tokyo Gore Police is well named; the film is gory and features some genuinely grotesque body horror-related mutations. The action is intense, and the movie has the feel of a Manga story. Despite this, the film has some great dark humor that helps carry the viewer through this orgy of mutations. While not well known outside of Japan, Tokyo Gore Police has become a cult classic and one of the best J Horror films this century.

The Double (2013)

The Double (2013)
Dir- Richard Ayoade

A seemingly invisible office drone named Simon James has his life shaken up when he encounters a new coworker named James Simon, who is identical in appearance but displays the confidence he lacks. At first, James helps improve his confidence, but then he takes advantage of the woman he desires and makes a mess of Simon's life. The Double is a dark comedy thriller directed by Richard Ayoade and starring Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska. Based on a novel of the same name by Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Double has a simple dystopian style that is similar to films like Brazil and Eraserhead. The dual roles of Simon and James are portrayed skillfully by Eisenberg, whose mental state is challenged by his desire for the woman he is afraid to approach. This dark comedy also features a cameo by Chris O'Dowd, best known as director Ayoade's coworker Roy on the English comedy series The IT Crowd.

24 Days of LosMas- I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday (2017)

I will be posting Christmas themed horror films over the next 24 days of LosMas; for the tenth night, I am listing the 2017 dystopian horror movie I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday

I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday (2017)

A mother (Hope Bikle) tries to shield her young son (Reeve Blazi) from the horrors of an unspecified apocalypse that has them living in an underground bunker. With their supplies running low and her husband missing, she faces a cruel set of choices as Christmas approaches. Written and directed by Mike Lombardo, I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday is a dystopian horror movie set in a world that has suffered a great tragedy leaving its survivors to face a prolonged and hopeless fate. Lead actress Hope Bikle is well cast as the mother, and child actor Reeve Blazi shows great promise as her child Riley. I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday is a holiday horror movie that shows a bleak and depressing world that is usually more common in zombie thrillers.
