97 Days to Halloween- 1922 Nosferatu

98 Days to Halloween

Over the next 100 days, I will present one movie of significances in horror, suspense or thrillers for each year from 1919 to 2018. The fourth film presented here is the 1922 German silent classic Nosferatu directed by FW Murnau and written by Henrik Galeen based on the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker

Nosferatu (1922) Germany
Dir- F.W. Murnau
In all of cinema history, no villain has ever topped Dracula in darkness and evil, and no version of the vampire has yet to match Max Schreck as the dreaded Count Orlok. Considered to be the first vampire movie and as one of the most creepy looking monsters to grace the screen. Count Orlok swept through the German town of Bremen (Wisborg in some film prints) like a plague claiming the innocent until a brave heroine takes it upon herself to stop this monster. Schreck's somewhat stiff and corpse-like Count makes this film a pure classic and as well as a pioneer of horror. The film was almost lost after a lawsuit by the family of Bram Stoker successfully had most copies of the film destroyed yet copies were found and restored to preserve this classic film.
