I will post Christmas-themed horror films over the next 24 days of LosMas; for the twenty second night, I am posting the 2023 anthology Night of the Missing.
Night of the Missing (2023)
During a stormy Christmas Eve evening, a strange woman appears, demanding to speak to the sheriff. As she looks over the wall of missing people, she tells four tales that may be tied to some of those posts. Night of the Missing is a 2023 horror anthology directed by Samuel Gonzalez and Gigi Hersh, featuring an ensemble cast for the four segments. As with many anthologies, you have a wraparound story to tie each tale, but Night of the Missing does not feature any Christmas segments. The stories appear spooky with some supernatural elements, but they all come together in the end with a surprising conclusion. Despite the lack of holiday-centered stories, Night of the Missing was a well-made anthology with a great cast in each of the four stories. While the wraparound segment seems more conventional, the interaction between the sheriff and the mysterious woman helps to set up each tale with an ending that will surprise its audience. As an anthology, you won't get a movie as holiday-centric as Krampus, but Night of the Missing still features some genuinely creepy tales that make this a movie that can be enjoyed by horror fans year-round.
